To achieve forced emptying of a filter housing having a filter element upon changing a filter serving to clean lubricating oil of an internal combustion engine, the interior of the filter housing can be connected to a conduit leading to the crankcase of the internal combustion engine via an opening covered, in the installed position of the filter, by a screw thread serving to fix the filter housing. According to the invention, the filter housing and the filter element form a constructional unit which can be screwed onto the screw thread of an underlying housing having an opposite thread, the opening passing through the opposite thread.
