A liquid sensor for transparent or partially transparent lines is described, in which the cross-section of the line acts as an optical lens and, whenever liquid passes through the cross-section, focusses onto a receiver the light irradiated from one side radially onto the cross-section, whilst the empty flexible tubular line scatters the irradiated light and does not allow it to reach the receiver.
