PURPOSE:To obtain an electrolyte tile having good heat cycle stability, strength and electrolyte performance by impregnating a stabilized ceramic fiber structure with mixture of lithium nitrate and aluminum nitrate hydrate and heating the same. CONSTITUTION:A ceramic fiber unitary structure formed of, such as, fibrous lithium aluminum felt and chemically stable to fused alkali carbonate is impregnated with liquid mixture of lithium nitrate and aluminum nitrate hydrate. The resultant material is heated above 550 deg.C to produce lithium aluminate particles in the structure. The operation of impregnation and heating is repeated to form an electrolyte holding plate containing approximately 30-80% lithium aluminate. This process is effective to obtain an electrolyte tile having a large area and high electrolyte holding performance. |
