For the early detection of a thread break and for the reliable stopping of the thread, a photoelectric travelling sensor guided on a track in parallel with a spindle rail has a slide, which actuates a roving stop device, and at least one glass-fibre cable arranged on the slide and directed towards the thread. The track of the slide is arranged behind the running threads of the yarn-producing machine, so that the photoelectric travelling sensor can move along behind the running threads.
