Device for storing, distributing and recovering repeatedly-used objects of identical shape, such as video cassettes 14, of the type triggered by an element for identifying the user, such as a magnetic card, and comprising storage means, selection means and means for issuing the object chosen by the user. According to the invention, the device is noteworthy in that it further comprises returning means permitting the reinsertion of an object 14 into the storage means and in that each object 14 comprises a data medium 15, 16, 17, 18 which is particular to itself, such as a magnetic medium, thus allowing identification of each object with respect to the others, on the one part during selection of the object being issued among the storage means and, on the other hand, during recovery of the re-entering object.
