The invention relates to a method of producing a foundation, in particular for heavy machines, with excavation of the foundation pit and subsequent concreting with the use of wall formwork. Here, in order to dispense with the measures for securing the foundation pit, the excavation is effected step-by-step first of all to a small depth, whereupon the wall formwork is erected, and only then is the first step repeated in one or more further steps. Consequently, not only is the object achieved, but the total production costs are also reduced and the time taken is considerably shortened. This method is used in particular in the case of foundation bodies of square or rectangular shape with side lengths of 6-7 m. The conventional protection by driving sheet pile walls is dispensed with by the method according to the invention. In this way, the noise nuisance is also reduced and cracks are avoided.
