In the case of small batch sizes, the semi-finished product is generally fed to a punching machine in strip form and processed to give punched parts. It is proposed to arrange the sheet-metal strip, supplied in rolls (coils), in a cassette-like container which is assigned as a whole to the punching machine, the forward end of the coil being passed through an opening in the container and inserted into the withdrawal device of the straightening apparatus or the press. It is thus possible to feed in the appropriate semi-finished product without prolonged resetting work on the punching machine and an interruption in the progress of operations is readily possible in the case of small batch sizes. In the installation according to the invention for carrying out the method, the punching machine (200) is assigned a slide (10) for accommodating at least one container (I, II, III) for a coil (20). <IMAGE>
