The tag, especially an animal ear tag comprises a spike and two tabs connected to one another by means of the said spike. At least one of the tabs (M) is held on the spike in an axial manner so as to be rotatable on the latter by a radial projection (18) which engages with the said tabs (M). A hand-held pair of pliers for inserting the said tags has jaws which are moveable in relation to one another, on the insides of which there are attached holding arms which take the form of leaf springs, the tabs being releasibly clamped between the said holding arms and the jaws when the tag is mounted. <IMAGE>
