A cooling device for air-conditioning installations or the like, with an airflow which passes through a housing and, projecting into this airflow, a pipe coil system of a primary circuit, which is spanned in a spraying space by a spraying device of a secondary circuit and is arranged above a bottom tank, connected to the primary circuit, for a liquid sump, is to be designed in such a manner that with it safe, water-saving operation is possible and its structure and its handling are simple. To this end, the bottom tank (3) forms with the pipe coil system (40) a closed space, the fee volume of which is filled with an inert gas. The closed space contains at least one register pipe (60) as down pipe leading from the pipe coil system (40) to the bottom tank (30). <IMAGE>
