Track brake element with two clamping plates which engage around a rail head and can be connected to one another by clamping bolts, having two friction pieces which are pressed by the clamping plates against the rail head and having a support element which is connected to the clamping plates and engages on the top of the rail head, the friction pieces only resting against the opposite sides of the rail head and in each case a support element being connected to the clamping plates and resting without prestressing on the top of the rail head.
