Electrolytic capacitor cathode foils are produced from a continuously cast plate of aluminium alloy contg. 0.08-0.45 % Cu and 0.005-0.04 % Ti. The alloy is pref. prepd. using aluminium of at least 99.7 % purity and pref. containing a max. 0.3 % total of Fe and Si impurities. The presence of Cu, together with the use of continuous casting, results in a high density, unifrom distribution of pits, without excessive wt. redn., and on etching the foil, the capacitance of the foil is improved. Cu also increases the mechanical strength of the foil. The Ti prevents cracks from developing in the continuously cast plate and improves the foil strength, without reducing the capacitance.
