An improved method for the production of gamma globulin suitable for intravenous administration comprises: the dissolving of gamma globulin, which has been precipitated from blood or blood products, in a solution, the separation of undissolved precipitate from the solution, the addition of polyethylene glycol to the separated solution, the separation of precipitate from the polyethylene glycol solution, increasing the polyethylene glycol concentration of the solution, the separation of precipitated, purified gamma globulin from the solution with a higher polyethylene glycol concentration, and dissolving the purified gamma globulin which is suitable for intravenous administration, the method having been improved by dissolving the gamma globulin precipitated from blood in a solution with neutral pH, by adding polyethylene glycol in the first stage to a concentration of 4.0-5.5% by weight and increasing the polyethylene glycol concentration in the second stage to at least 9%, but not more than 16%, by weight, and by adding a buffer agent into the solution just before the addition of the polyethylene glycol in any of the two polyethylene glycol addition stages.
