A display for the oil replacement intervals in internal-combustion engines is proposed, two surfaces (11, 12) which form a capacitor (10) being provided in the oil circuit of the internal-combustion engine and/or the transmission of the internal-combustion engine, between which surfaces (11, 12) the oil forms the dielectric. In order to detect the equivalent resistance, an AC voltage source (18) having a frequency of preferably 200 Hz is connected to this capacitor (10). The equivalent resistance, or a variable derived therefrom, is supplied to a display device as a measure of the aging of the oil or of the oil quality. In this way, the oil condition can be determined very exactly, and longer service intervals can be achieved by avoiding unnecessary oil replacements. <IMAGE>
