A metallic contact needle for test devices which are used for the electrical testing of electrical test items. In order to be able to give the contact needle both good electrical properties and good mechanical properties cost-effectively, its straight shaft is tapered by means of at least one step and, furthermore, the contact needle has a wire. At least one metallic fine tube, which is used for the step on the shaft, is arranged on this wire, in the region of the shaft.
