A process is to be created for purifying exhaust air laden with pollutants, in particular industrial exhaust air, which operates with low energy consumption and without the use of hazardous chemical substances within a large temperature range, without a previous cooling of the exhaust air or the hot exhaust gases being necessary. For this purpose, the invention provides that activated charcoal of a high degree of purity is pulverised, is mixed with water to form an activated charcoal-water suspension and is atomised within the flowing exhaust air. An adsorption of the pollutants, in particular odour substances, takes place in this case to the water mist droplets in which the pulverised activated charcoal is situated and to which pollutant portions are adsorbed. By suitable catalysts, the activated charcoal-water suspension can easily be regenerated again, so that a continuous process is possible without waste water problems.
