In the case of an anemometer having a transmitter whose rotational movement can be sampled without making contact and can be converted into an electrical signal which is related to the wind speed, the transmitter is provided with a coder which passes through a light barrier from which a pulse signal sequence can be emitted which can be passed to a display apparatus. A wind-direction measuring apparatus, which can be coupled thereto via a common alarm device, has a wind vane and a coding device which is connected thereto and passes through a plurality of light barriers which are arranged in a rotationally symmetrical manner, preferably on a circle, and from which an electrical signal (which can be supplied to a decoder) can be emitted and to which a number of display devices, corresponding to the number of light barriers, are connected which are arranged in a manner corresponding to the light barriers.
