In order to reduce sympathetic vibrations in valve drives in reciprocating piston internal combustion engines it is proposed according to the invention to provide a serial mounting of two springs, the known valve spring (3) having a greater stiffness than the second spring connected in series. The result of this is that the overall spring natural frequency exhibits an incremental behaviour, depending on the valve lift, so that sympathetic vibrations are reduced. By selecting suitable, self-damping springs even the vibrations occurring can be additionally damped. <IMAGE>
