<p>A method provides the fabrication of high voltage electrodes containing calcium and silicon for the ignition system of an internal combustion engine. To increase the resistance and consequently to extend the life time of said electrodes, the latter contain in addition to the calcium and silicon, iron and optionally small quantities of tungsten and molybdenum. As a result, the ignition voltage is lowered and the deparasiting characteristics are improved. An important advantage of the material forming the electrodes and containing iron and calcium silicide is that it hardly allows the formation of contact bridges when the electrode presents a contact area comprised of a ductile metal, particularly iron. For producing said electrodes, it is required that the mixture of iron and calcium silicide powder be granulated in order to facilitate processability but mainly to avoid the separation of the constituents.</p> |
