The ventilator is mounted in an opening 3 in the wall of a room and includes a filter 5 and heat recovery cells 11-13 which are pivotable away from the filter. Room air is drawn over the cells 11-13 by a fan 15 and expelled to outside via a valve 10. The fan may be reversed to draw air from outside the room through the filter and heat recovery cells before delivery into the room via nozzles 18. Humidification of the air may be achieved by a nozzle 22. The pivoting of the cells away from the opening 3 enables ventilation solely through the filter and also enables easy access to the filter for cleaning purposes.
