PURPOSE:To effect direct measurement of liquid level in a container, by installing many detecting elements at various heights transmitting and interrupting a light beam depending on existing or non-existing liquid level and an optical fiber transmitting the beam from the light emitting unit to the detecting unit. CONSTITUTION:A container 1 is filled with liquid up to a liquid level 2 and for measuring this level 2, a detecting unit 3 is installed inside. And, inside the detecting unit 3, many detecting elements (prism 11) are installed at various heights. Further, an incident optical fiber 8 is installed to be directed to an inclined surface of the prism 11 and to allow a beam of light from the source 5 to be transmitted. Consequently, when the prism is not immersed in the liquid, the beam of light is interrupted by the prism 11 and when it is existing, it passes through the prism, output optical fibers 9, 10 and the beam is guided to displaying unit 6 and controlling unit 7, showing that the border line between bright and dark areas represents the desired liquid level. Thus, direct measurement of the liquid level inside the container can be effected. |
