METHOD FOR DRIVING A MATRIX TYPE DISPLAY

In driving a thin film EL display panel providing a matrix arrangement of translucent data electrodes and metal scanning electrodes, the data pulse is supplied to the selected translucent data electrodes slightly sooner than the scanning pulse to be supplied to the opposing metal scanning electrodes. The effect of this is that the scanning pulse is applied always when the data pulse has reached or almost reached its maximum. This counteracts the influence of electrode resistance which slows down the rise time of the data pulse. Thus, fluctuation of brightness due to the influence of electrode resistance of the translucent data electrode can be eliminated and uniform and distinctive display can be attained.
