A process for the production by forging in a closed mould of components of predetermined final shape from a billet portion of semicrystalline plastics material of the polyoxymethylene and polyamide type, wherein the billet portion is homogenously heated at a temperature which is about 7 degrees C lower than the melting temperature of the material, the hot billet portion is introduced into the mould in an open condition, the mould is closed and the material is compressed in the closed mould at a given holding pressure, said given pressure is held for a period of between 1 second and 60 seconds after closure of the mould, the mould is opened and the forged component is withdrawn therefrom, characterized in that said given holding pressure is between three times and twenty times the yield stress of the material as measured in a tensile mode at the temperature of the ambient medium.
