PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of a level difference between adjacent latent images on a photosensitive body, by independently connecting a leading wire to the common side electrode of each chip group forming an LED array and driving the LED array in optional order. CONSTITUTION:An optical write head is equipped with a LED array 1, in which monolithic chips 21-212 containing 128 pieces of LEDs 2a are arranged in one line. The common side electrodes of each chip 21-212 are electrically insulated from each other and connected with decoders 9-11. When the optical write head is driven, clock pulses are sent from a clock generator 13 to an address generator 14 and common code generator 12 and data form a data memory which is not shown in the figure are sent to shift registers 6. The data are successively sent from the chip 21 to chip 24, chip 25 to chip 28, and chip 29 to chip 212 and the common side electrodes also become '1' in the same order. When such arrangement is made, no level difference is produced between adjacent latent images.
