Catalyst comprises a titanium component, organoaluminium cpd. and an oxygen or nitrogen cpd. (I). The Ti component contains Ti, Mg, halogen and an electron donor. The electron donor is an ester or polyester (II) of satd. polycarboxylic acid; an ester or polyester (III) of unsatd. polycarboxylic acid; a mono-or di-ester of an aromatic ortho-dicarboxylic acid with at least one C2-20 hydrocarbyl gp. (I) is heterocyclic cpd. of formula(V) where R2 is C2-3 alkylene; R3, R4, R5, R6 are H or C1-12 alkyl and may form a 5 or 6 membered cycloalkyl ring; M is -0- or -NR7- ; R7 is C1-12 alkyl or metal which can be lower alkyl substd.
