The coupling segments 10, 12 are designed for use in high- pressure pipeline systems. They are equipped with multiple cast splines 30, 32 which are preserved in their cast state and are designed to be received in a corresponding number of grooves 34 in the pipe ends 24 or the line part ends. When axial loading of the splines takes place, the engagement surfaces of the splines are crushed and cold-work the engagement surfaces of the grooves, bringing about balancing of the axial load. In this way, it is possible to use divided couplings for pipelines operating at a higher pressure than the pipelines in which it has previously been possible to use such divided couplings. <IMAGE>
