The invention relates to a method for the determination of ammonia (or ATP) in a sample solution and comprises allowing glutamine synthetase to act on the sample solution in the presence of L-glutamic acid and ATP (or ammonia) and then allowing a kinase to act on the formed kinase substrate and the ATP, and measuring the amount of the product resulting from the kinase reaction. It is possible in this way to measure ammonia or ATP specifically and with high sensitivity at low cost.
