The strength and weathering resistance of the porous body are increased by first removing gases and moisture from the porous body in a vessel which can be subjected to a vacuum. The vessel is then filled with an impregnating liquid consisting of a durable synthetic resin and curing agent. The body is fully immersed and held in the impregnating fluid under a positive pressure until the impregnating fluid has penetrated to a sufficient depth into the porous body. While maintaining the positive pressure, the impregnating liquid is then drained off and curing of the impregnating fluid absorbed by the porous body is initiated by supplying energy inside the vessel while maintaining the positive pressure. The vacuum is at most -0.1 to -0.3 bar, preferably -0.2 bar.
|
