The invention relates to a self-locking device intended to replace the nut screwed on the pin of (goods) handling gear and, in particular, of large shackles. Such a device 3, especially applicable to a shackle 1 of large size, consists of a set of wedges 6a, 6b sliding in a groove and subjected to the action of return springs 12a, 12b interacting with a set of locking knobs 9a, 9b so that the operator can, by moving the wedges 6a, 6b apart with the aid of handles 60a, 60b, introduce the device on the pin 2, locking being obtained automatically by releasing the said wedges by simple pressure exerted on the knobs 9a, 9b. The invention applies to all types of heavy and large-size (goods) handling gear. <IMAGE>
