In a process for producing electrically conductive surfaces on dielectrics such as plastics, on which metals are electrodeposited, the dielectric is to be coated with an electrically conductive surface coating prior to the electrodeposition of metal. To this end, the surface coating is admixed with finely dispersed soot and/or finely dispersed metal powder to reduce the electrical surface resistance.
