The invention relates to a method for producing an end-face chamfer on welded tubes with the aid of a rotating tool which can be displaced in the process with respect to the tube in an axial and/or radial fashion. It is characterised in that the outside diameter of the tube is determined by measuring the position of the jaws clamping the tube, in that the wall thickness of the tube is measured at three ultrasonic measuring points, in that at least two measured thickness values falling within the tolerance range of the wall thickness of the tube are averaged in a computer in which the ratio of the wall thickness to the depth of the desired chamfer has been input in advance, and in that the computer transmits the axial and radial chamfering value of the tool to the device for the purpose of adjusting the chamfering tool. <IMAGE>
