<p>A shaft seal has the lip (9), of its elastomeric sealing ring (4), formed with a frusto-conical contact band (10) around the shaft (8) and a skirt, shown as a tapered axial flange (11), is designed to have an annular non-constant clearance (14) around the shaft. On shaft rotation, liquid pulsation in the clearance (14) oscillates the skirt and causes osculation of the contact band against the shaft surface and thus displacement pumping towards the oil side (0).</p> |
