<p>Apparatus and method for a data communication network which has topological independence, low variance service time distributions, potentially guaranteed maximum time to transmit, easy expansion and high error tolerence. The network access control is fundamentally a permit (token) based system. This yields highly efficient utilization of the channel and powerful control over priorities on access to the network. In addition, a contentient based scheme is provided to enable error recovery, startup, and restart to be fast and reliable. The system includes a receiver controller (203), error checker (240) collision detector (204), and transmitter controller (208) for access to a shared communications medium (10).</p> |
