Release of the breaker can be controlled by the choice of encapsuling material, and the breaking and hardening times for the emulsion are accelerated when the breaker is released. The bitumen emulsions used are of the oil-in-water type, contg. bituminous material and a water phase in a weight ratio of from approx. 20:80 to apprxo. 80:20, but a preferred form is that known as a slurry seal, i.e. an intimate mixture of emulsified bituminous material, and relatively large amounts of fine granular material. The emulsion can be cationic, anionic or amphoteric. |
