PURPOSE:To provide solvent resistance, the wide angle of view and superior response characteristics and to facilitate the accurate regulation of a gap between transparent electrode substrates by using fine particles having a uniform particle size and stress relieving power as org. spacers for regulating the gap between the substrates. CONSTITUTION:Powdery org. spacers 1 are dispersed in a sealant 2 and the sealant 2 is applied to the periphery of a transparent electrode substrate 3 obtd. by forming a transparent electrode 4 and an orienting film 5 on a substrate 6 by screen printing or other system. Other electrode substrate 3 is put on the substrate 3, the sealant 2 is cured by heating under pressure and a liq. crystal 7 is injected. The spaces 1 are obtd. by modifying fine particles of a cross-linked polymer by polymn. with a non-cross-linkable monomer and a cross-linkable monomer. The spacers 1 are spherical fine particles having stress relieving power by the internal structure having a heterogeneous phase. Solvent resistance, the wide angle of view and superior response characteristics are provided, the accurate regulation of the gap between the substrates is facilitated and the reliability can be improved. |
