A memory card (2) can be plugged into an electronic device (1), so that various application programs which are stored on the memory card (2) can be executed by the electronic device (1) as required. Some key symbols are printed on both sides of the memory card (2). If the memory card (2) is plugged into the electronic device (1), the key symbols on only one side of the memory card (2) are visible through a transparent window area (4) of the electronic device (1). According to whether the back or front side of the memory card (2) is visible through this transparent window area (4), either a first or a second application program is automatically selected and executed, by establishing the type of activated symbols with the aid of a central processing unit which is present in the electronic device (1). <IMAGE>
