The lifting appliance shown in Figure 1 is equipped with two erecting scissors 2 which are arranged under a plate (not shown in Fig. 1) receiving the material to be lifted. Each erecting scissor 2 has a scissor leg 7 which is attached to the plate in an articulated manner. The other respective scissor leg 8 is movable along the underside of the plate. Guide rails 12 are fastened to the scissor legs 8. Provided adjacent to these guide rails 12 are auxiliary rails 11 which are attached to the underside of the plate in an articulated manner just like the outer scissor legs 7. The guide rails 12 and auxiliary rails 11 form a wedge gap through which the erecting scissors 2 can be spread out from their extended position by means of rollers 6. The rollers 6 are fastened to a cross piece 5. This cross piece 5 is in turn attached to the piston rods 4 of pressure-medium cylinders 3. The pressure-medium cylinders 3 are attached to the plate side which is opposite the connection side of the outer scissor legs 7. The side of the plates (not shown in Fig. 1) which is opposite the pressure-medium cylinders 3 consequently remains free so that this side can advantageously be provided with a recess 14. <IMAGE>
