A manhole cover with a lock housing which is fastened to the manhole lid and into which a safety lock and a locking mechanism are inserted. The locking mechanism has a bearing bush fastened in the lock housing and a bearing pin rotatably mounted in the bearing bush. A turnbuckle is attached to the bottom pin end emerging from the lock housing. The top pin end is designed as an actuating head for an actuating key. The safety lock merely serves as an installation safety device and is in turn covered by a cover lid. <IMAGE>
