PURPOSE:To quicken picture processing such as profile extraction by applying addition/subtraction processing to input picture data and picture data retarded by a delay circuit for one horizontal scanning period and a delay circuit at one dot period. CONSTITUTION:After 2-dimensional picture data is converted into digital picture data by an A-D converter 1, the result to given to subtracters 4a, 4b, a one- horizontal scanning period delay circuit 2 and a one-dot period delay circuit 3. The subtracter 4a obtains a difference between non-delay input digital picture data and one-horizontal scanning period delay picture data, and a subtracter 4b obtains a difference between the non-delay input digital picture data and one-dot delay picture data. The outputs of the subtracters 4a, 4b are added by an adder 5 and the result is outputted.
