PURPOSE:To increase the yield of rice and wheat, by treating ears of rice plant and wheat with a chemical containing a specific N-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)urea as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:Ears of rice plant and wheat are treated with a chemical prepared by formulating an N-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)urea expressed by the formula (R is H, lower alkyl or halogen), e.g. N-(2-chloro-4-pyridyl)-N'-phenylurea, N-(2- chloro-4-pyridyl)-N'-(m-chlorophenyl)urea, etc., as an active ingredient into wettable powder, emulsion, dust, etc., in a period after one week counting from the heating data to one week before the reaping data to increase the yield of the rice and wheat. The amount of the active ingredient in the above- mentioned formulation is 1-70wt% for wettable powder, 1-60wt% for emulsion and 0.0005-0.5wt% for dust. The concentration of the active ingredient in the chemical in treatment is 5-500ppm and the application amount thereof is 10-500l/10 areas.
