PURPOSE:To obtain a modified hem having hydrophilic and hydrophobic nature, soluble in organic solvent and useful for the examination of lipoperoxide in blood, etc., by bonding carboxyl group of hem or hematin molecule with a polyalkylene glycol methyl ether. CONSTITUTION:Hem or hematin (e.g. protohem, protohematin, etc.) is made to react with a polyalkylene glycol methyl ether (e.g. polyethylene glycol methyl ether of formula) or its omega-amino derivative to obtain the objective modified hem. The compound can be used for the determination of peroxide in a fat- soluble substance extracted with an organic solvent.
