Figure (1) shows a testing apparatus (100) for carrying out material tests, in particular for carrying out tests of tensile and shear strength of masonry, wood joints and the like, the apparatus having at least one holding rack, means for receiving the test piece and a loading device. The holding rack is constructed as a rigid, closed frame, on which there can be fitted a loading device in the form of a compression machine, a test piece, holding means and the like in various positions. The connection of these parts and of the holding frame takes place in the form of plug connections, allowing in particular compressive, shear and tensile tests to be carried out. The testing apparatus (100) serves in particular for carrying out strength tests to compare materials with one another, for demonstration purposes in schools, primarily on the subject of structural engineering. <IMAGE>
