PURPOSE:To obtain an optically active propionic acid amide useful as a raw material for agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, dyes, etc., in high efficiency, by contacting racemic propionic acid amide with a diacetylenediol, thereby effecting optical resolution of the racemic compound. CONSTITUTION:A racemic propionic acid amide of formula (X is OH or halogen; R1 and R2 are 1-6C alkyl or 3-6C cycloalkyl or together form 3-8C alkylene) is made to contact with optically active 1,6-di(2-halophenyl)-1,6-diphenyl-2,4- hexadiyne-1,6-diol[abbreviated as diacetylenediol] in a solvent such as benzene at 10-50 deg.C for 1-50hr to obtain a complex containing one of the antipodes of the propionic acid is clathrated state. The clathrate complex is separated to obtain the objective compound. |
