The invention relates to a gas-discharge lamp (10) in the case of which a discharge gas is enclosed in a cylindrical tube (12) from which light can be passed through. An inner electrode (14) and an outer electrode (20) are provided as first and second (respectively) connecting or pick-off end (14a, 20a) on the side of the same end of the tube (12), the inner electrode (14) being located in the interior of the tube (12), and the outer electrode (20) running on the outside of the tube (12), in its axial direction, with the exception of a region in which a slot (24) is provided. A high-frequency electrical power source (28) is connected to the inner electrode (14) and outer electrode (20). A discharge takes place within the tube (12) when a high-frequency current is applied to the inner electrode (14) and outer electrode (20). <IMAGE>
