The mechanism comprises a metering chamber (51) with a diaphragm, connected alternately to the vessel and to the drain from the basin. This is actuated by a multi-way metering unit (3), operated by a vacuum-generator (8) in the water circuit. The unit reacts to the varying pressure as the supply tap is turned on and off. This first admits solution to the chamber, and then discharges it as the water flow ceases.
