The knife, having a blade (2) that can be folded into the space between two side plates (1) has a lever (3) for locking the blade (2) in the open position, and by means of a turning moment applied about the lever pivot by a spring (4), the end section of the lever is pressed against the base (5) of the knife blade (2) to secure the blade. The lever is pivotally mounted by a shaft (8) supported in bearing recesses (9) formed in the inner surfaces of the side plates (1) and which do not penetrate to the outer surface of the side plates (1). A guide channel (10) communicating with each bearing recess, extends radially therefrom to the peripheral edge (15) of the side plate (1) so facilitating assembly of the pocket knife. Accordingly, the pivot shaft (8) is not exposed at the outer surface of the side plates with the result that the surface of the pocket knife can be easily finished. <IMAGE>
