The tone arm plate (5) is rotated about a perpendicular axis via a battery driven electric motor and a vertically and horizontally pivoted tone arm (10) cooperating with a stationary record disc (2). A cam element (15) cooperating with the tone arm (10) is brought into different radial positions via a manual selection device (20) to determine the position of the tone arm (10) relative to the spiral recording track carried by the record disc. Pref. an intermediate transmission (17) is inserted between the manual selection device (20) and the cam element (15).
