Lathe with two tool turrets each arranged on a compound-slide system. The tool turrets are arranged on facing sides of the two compound-slide systems and have indexing axes running parallel to or at a slight angle to the work-spindle axis of the lathe. In order to reduce the risk of collisions between the two tool turrets and to be able to run the two tool turrets close together, the tool turret lying on the headstock side is designed to be smaller and to have fewer stations than the other tool turret so that the circles described by the tool cutting edges during the rotation of the two tool turrets are smaller in the one tool turret than in the other.
