The invention relates to an arrangement for length compensation for precision level staffs by removing the reaction on the bracing force of the high-precision scale carrier in the staff body which occurs when the precision level staffs are loaded due to temperature or humidity. The error in length which occurs due to these loadings is removed at the same time. This is achieved by bracing a scale carrier (4) in a staff body (1) by means of a lever (3) through spring force in such a manner that the pivotal point B for a spring (5) is provided on the lever (3) between a bearing point A of the lever (3) and a suspension point C of the scale carrier (4).
