PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound having excellent heat stability in a stable productivity by interfacial polymerization, by adding a specific compound to a dispersion containing an active intermediate for polyamide before the dispersion is brought into contact with an aqueous solution of an acid-acceptor. CONSTITUTION:First, an aromatic diamine is reacted with an aromatic dicarboxylic acid halide in an organic solvent as a poor solvent (preferably THF) to the formed polymer to give a dispersion containing an active intermediate. Then a monofunctional aromatic compound (preferably aniline) is added to the dispersion, the dispersion is brought into contact with an aqueous solution of an acid-acceptor (preferably sodium carbonate) to give the aimed polymer which has >=85mol% repeating unit of meta-phenylene phthalamide, >=1.8 intrinsic viscosity, >=10mol% terminal group based on total terminal groups, hindered with a monofunctional aromatic compound and 1-5% oligomer content obtained by high performance liquid chromatography.
