PURPOSE:To obtain an sealing type carbon dioxide gas laser with high efficiency and long life, by using an electrode containing an element of high CO oxidation catalytic activity. CONSTITUTION:A laser tube 1 in which carbon dioxide gas is sealed is covered with a water-cooled jacket. The laser tube 1 is provided with an anode 3 and an cathode 4. The cathode 4 is composed of compound oxide. That is, after CeO2 and CoCO3 are mixed, they are baked at a temperature 1300 deg.C, and subjected to a thermal processing in an oxidation atmosphere at a temperature range of 350-950 deg.C. Then a compound oxide of CeO2-Co3O4 is obtained. Further the above compound oxide is impregnated with a platinum group element of high CO oxidation catalytic activity, and thereby the higher activity can be expected which makes it possible to increase the conductivity of the compound. As the result of this, the decrease of output due to dissociation of carbon dioxide gas and the change of composition of gas in the laser tube do not generate, so that high efficiency and long life of the sealing type carbon dioxide gas laser can be realized. |
